The Revolving Door of Expat Life

"Never tell anyone anything, or you will miss everyone"

~ Holden Caufield (The Catcher in the Rye)

Rule 1 of Expat Life - People come, & people go

It is truly one of the major differences of living in an expat society, vs. living in your hometown.

This week another friend left.

A very beautiful American & her very cute Bavarian husband.... they moved here a couple and left as a family. "Producing" a son while here.

The thing is... I am now VERY used to this. The comings and goings of new friends & "old" (in expat terms).

Is this a good, or a bad thing I wonder? Or just a thing?

Classics, Italianized

Why do these titles in Italian seem funny?

Springtime... for Zurich... and Switzerland

Sheep. Rainbows.

Enjoying Sundays at the beergarten with a view of the mountains & lake.

New York this is not.

I Is Literate

I'm forgetting English.

Is it "take something with a grain of salt" or a pinch?

Malpropisms were never a problem....  although for years I thought it was "up & Adam" (up & at 'em).    And "it's a doggy dog world".

At least I still speak jive.

Oh Swiss Media

Was just googling "Mr. Schweiz 09" to see who won.

This website appeared.

Um...   Woah.

Really - click on the link.     Then note the photo slide show.   Apparently there was a "Mr. Schweiz training camp" in Barbados before the competition.

The pics are hilarious.   Gratuitous shirtlessness seems to be a required element.

Milk.  It does a body good.

To everything, turn turn turn

Oh, and in other news - I'm thinking of changing my blog name.   My Swiss life is not so new anymore.

I am thinking of going with the new name "Sexual Chocolate"

If you do not get this reference, I can't help you...

Deutsch, the language of love...

The time has come for me to suck it up & learn some more German.

Not all German.   Not German.  Just some more.

This is what I'm starting with...

They attend the meeting.          Sie besuchen die Versammlung.
In summer I visit my parents  Im Sommer besuche ich meine Eltern

Come to see me sometime!       Besuchst mich einmal!

I envy your calm.                     Ich beneide Sie um Ihre Ruhe.

Come on, this is ridiculous!   Ich bitte Sie, das ist doch lächerlich!

I got soaked to the skin.   Ich wurde bis auf die Haut nass.

I'm double your age.   Ich bin zweimal so alt wie Sie.
